Blog Commenting
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
The first traffic generating technique that I’m going to tell you about it blog commenting. Commenting on other blogs can be a very powerful technique for building traffic to your website, especially if it is done properly.
Unfortunately, most underestimate the value of blog commenting. Here are just a few of the benefits that can arise from commenting on blogs;
- Backlinks
- Traffic to your website
- Relationships with blog owners
- Guest posting opportunities
- Interviews
- Add Swaps
- Joint Ventures
Of course, to get the most exposure from your comments, you can’t just go and comment on any blog and expect that to result in loads of traffic to your website. There are some things to keep in mind to optimise how much traffic you can get from a blog comment.
Optimal Exposure
To drive the most amount of traffic to your blog, you need to have your comment seen by as many people as possible. To do this, you must comment on high profile blogs that have a lot of readers, RSS subscribers and commenters.
Not only that, but you will need to comment on the latest post as soon as possible. The earlier you comment, the closer to the top of the comments list you will appear. The higher you are in this list the better because not many people will read all the comments. The top few are the most commonly read.
Also, the sooner you comment on a blog after it is published, the more likely your comment is to be seen by the readers of that blog post.
Provide Value
There’s no point being one of the first people to comment on a blog post to gain maximum exposure if you’re not going to provide value to the people that read your comment.
Only comment on a blog post if you liked the content and if you have something relevant to say that will provide the readers with good value.
You want to make your comment stand out from the others. You do this by providing in-depth, insightful comments that add to the conversation.
Brand Your Comments
Always use the same name, same avatar, same URL and the same signature when commenting on blogs.
When people continuously see your name in the comments section of blogs and your input provides useful information, they will wonder who you are and are more likely to click your link to visit your blog.
Consistently comment on multiple high profile blogs and you could gain great exposure as well as giving yourself a good reputation for providing useful information. This should result in driving some serious traffic to your blog and help to build invaluable relationships with your fellow bloggers.

“Only comment on a blog post if you liked the content and if you have something relevant to say that will provide the readers with good value.”
It’s so refreshing to see this sort of advice on blog commenting. Most people seem to be advocating that marketers go out and post rubbish on blogs just to earn backlinks.
Everyone needs to remember – as you say- that your blog posts can either add to or take away from your reputation so we need to make sure we only post valuable comments that add to the discussion.
I have several blogs of my own – and a comment that is openly just spam goes straight in the trash – so that person just wasted their time (or they wasted their money on a system that posted the spam!)

Thanks for the comment Clare. I couldn’t agree more.
I have 2 spam filters running on my blog to prevent anyone from leaving worthless comments and any that do manage to get passed them are deleted by me.
